Kitarō was the author of a two-volume picture book entitled Hyakukō Gafu (i.e., Picture Album of One Hundred Ideas), published in 1893. Forty-eight pages with pictures of flowers and (or) birds are shown in this gallery. Click on a picture to enlarge it. The shapes of objects were drawn fairly accurately but their true colors were reduced to shades of gray because the pictures were intaglio-printed and full color intaglio printing was not common in Japan at the time.
